GFHG “The Tone I Hear In My Head” Helix Pedalboard

When I sit down with any rig designed for the ethereal tones of modern worship music, this is the sound I chase. It’s the tone I naturally gravitate toward when tracking songs, and it’s where I land when I take a song in a different direction and write my own parts. To me, it’s just that sound. Open. Airy. A supportive wash underneath. It keeps me from overplaying and helps me focus on what matters. When I think of being “locked in” from a tone perspective, this is it. And when my tone is locked in, I’m able to focus less on it—and more on Christ.

Methodology of the GFHG “The Tone I Hear In My Head” Helix Pedalboards:
First, I prefer to make the following changes to the Helix for this preset:
Preset Mode Switches: 8 Snapshots
Stomp Mode Switches: 10 Switches
Snapshot Edits: Discard
This pack includes two main patches, with the only difference being the modulation used.
GFHGBrdSwirl utilizes Univibe (which I use to emulate a Lo-Fi sound) and Vibrato.
GFHGBrdWobble utilizes Univibe and Tremolo.
The signal chain:
Compressor – Dialed in to match my Origin Effects Cali76CD settings.
POG – Dialed in to match my “all-around” setting on the POG2.
Drive 1 – Dialed in similar to the medium gain drives I prefer (e.g., JHS Kilt, Daily Driver, Case Study Effects Aspen).
Drive 2 – Dialed in similar to the various light gain drives I prefer (e.g., Greer Amps Light Speed, SoloDallas Storm).
Boost – Dialed in to match my Jackson Audio Prism.
Volume Pedal – Dialed in to match my…just kidding.
8th delay
Dotted 8th delay
Tremolo or Vibrato
Reverb – Decay, mix, etc., is adjusted throughout the Snapshots.
Univibe
Split Left/Right:
Left Amp: AC30 Fawn into Match G25 cab
Right Amp: Deluxe Reverb into C12 cab, then into a compressor
Post EQ – the final touch that brings it all together.

Deluxe Verb GFHG – I recommend pairing this with the AC30 GFHG. When using this amp in stereo with another, add Dlx Vrb Comp directly after it.

TonePress GFHG – Dialed in to match my Barber TonePress settings.
Drives/Boosts:
Aspen GFHG – Dialed in to match my Case Study Effects Aspen settings.
Boost GE-7 GFHG – Dialed in to match my Boss GE-7 settings.
Prism Boost GFHG – Dialed in to match my Jackson Audio Prism settings.
Light Speed GFHG – Dialed in to match my Greer Amps Light Speed settings.
Superbolt GFHG – Dialed in to match my low gain JHS Superbolt settings.
Delays:
Dotted Mod GFHG – Nice dotted eighth delay with a little more control over the high end when needed.
Dual Delay GFHG – 8th into Dotted 8th dual delay.
Tape 8th GFHG – Dotted 8th delay with some nice movement and chewiness.
Tape DOT GFHG – 8th delay with some nice movement and chewiness.
Modulation/Octave:
Destroyer GFHG – Attempted to emulate how I use the Destroyer algorithm in the Strymon Mobius.
Julia GFHG – Dialed in to match my Walrus Audio Julia settings.
Mid Trem – Basic tremolo.
StutterTrem GFHG – Stutter tremolo, à la the intro to Mighty Warrior by Elevation Worship.
Subtle VB GFHG – Subtle Vibrato.
VB-2 Fast – Faster Vibrato.
Wick VB GFHG – Vibrato I like to use for most Phil Wickham songs.
POG Annoying – Very high-pitched POG sound that’s really only useful for ambient stuff.
POG Mid Mix GFHG – My “everyday” POG setting. Great for lead lines.
POG Upper GFHG – POG setting that emphasizes the high octave.
Reverbs:
1 is mild, 2 is moderate, and 3 is more intense and washed out.
GFHGC1, GFHGC2, GFHGC3 – These are somewhere between a Cloud and a Plate—bright, airy, and definitely has that ethereal vibe.
GFHGH1, GFHGH2 – These reverbs give the sense of space without being a focal point of the tone.
GFHGR1, GFHGR2, GFHGR3 – Reminds me of the perfect decay and beloved artifacting the Strymon BigSky is known for, but with a slightly darker tone.
Miscellaneous:
Post Amp EQ GFHG – I put this at the very end of every preset I make; the final touch that brings it all together.
Importing Presets:
You can import these into your Helix using a USB cable and Line 6’s software, HX Edit, which is available for download on their website. Note: If you attempt to load them and you encounter any sort of error, update HX Edit and your Helix and you’ll be good to go.
