Strymon BigSky MX Pack

Preset Pack Methodology

Each preset is organized by reverb intensity: Numbers 1, 2, 3 correspond to the level of reverb intensity, with 1 being mild and 3 being more washed out.

Core Reverbs

These are your reverbs for the main elements of the song.

Cloud Reverbs (3) Presets: GFHGC1, GFHGC2, GFHGC3
These are your go-to for the lush, ethereal worship tones that have become a genre staple. Ideal for wetter tones reminiscent of the Bethel sound.

Plate Reverbs (3) Presets: GFHGP1, GFHGP2, GFHGP3
Classic plate reverbs, dialed in specifically for worship. These offer a straightforward reverb with a touch of brightness.

Hall Reverbs (3) Presets: GFHGH1, GFHGH2, GFHGH3
Not as washy as Cloud or shiny as Plate, these presets deliver a versatile, adaptable reverb suitable for a wide range of applications in the worship genre.

Room Reverbs (3) Presets: GFHGR1, GFHGR2, GFHGR3
Use these for a subtle, supporting reverb—ideal for when the effect isn’t a focal point, inspired by tones from Hillsong and Elevation.

Plate + Cloud Dual Reverbs (3) Presets: GFHGP+C1, GFHGP+C2, GFHGP+C3
These bridge the gap when the plate reverb isn’t ethereal enough, but you don’t want to jump to a full-on cloud reverb.

Cloud + Chorale Dual Reverbs (3) Presets: GFHGC+CH1, GFHGC+CH2, GFHGC+CH3
If you’ve ever wanted a bit more movement from the Cloud algorithm, you’ll love these. Blending the Chorale algorithm with Cloud adds a gentle motion without feeling overly modulated.

Chamber + Hall Dual Reverbs (3) Presets: CHMBR+HALL1, CHMBR+HALL2, CHMBR+HALL3
This reminds me of the Brighty Washy reverb I created for the Big Sky. If you listen to Have It All by Bethel, CHMBR+HALL2 closely resembles the reverb used for the clean chorus. It’s a straightforward, shiny reverb—nothing too complex, just simple and effective.

Swell Reverbs

These are designed specifically for long, expansive swells.

Cloud
Preset: Swell Cloud
Cloud reverb designed for swells.

Shimmer + Cloud
Preset: Swell SH+CL
A Shimmer reverb built on a Cloud foundation. This tames the Shimmer effect, making it less overpowering while adding a smooth, wispy tail from the Cloud.

Cloud + Ensemble
Preset: Swell CLD+EN
Adds a slight ensemble effect to the Cloud swell.

Cloud + Magneto
Preset: Swell CL+Mag
A Cloud swell combined with Magneto for a pulsing swell that adds rhythmic movement.

Cloud + Chorale
Preset: Swell CL+CH
If you’ve ever wanted a bit more movement from the Cloud algorithm swell reverbs, you’ll love these for swells. Blending the Chorale algorithm with Cloud adds a gentle motion without feeling overly modulated.

Ambient Reverbs

Designed for ambient picking and moderate swells, these reverbs are perfect for down sections and contemplative moments.

Cloud + Ensemble
Preset: AMBT CLD+EN
Adds a subtle ensemble pad to the Cloud algorithm, creating the feel of a synth subtly backing you up.

Cloud + Shimmer
Preset: AMBT CLD+SH
A slight variation of the Cloud + Ensemble reverb that adds a subtle octave up via the Shimmer algorithm.

Nonlinear + Cloud
Preset: AMBT Spooky
A rising and falling tremolo effect blended with the wash of the Cloud algorithm.

Magneto + Cloud
Preset: AMBT MAG+CLD
A subtle tremolo effect from Magneto combined with the wash of the Cloud algorithm.

Cloud + Magneto
Preset: AMBT CLD+MAG
The Cloud algorithm being bent by the Magneto algorithm.

Miscellaneous Reverb
It’s called WEIRDMAGNETO; it’s the Magneto algorithm and I use it for one part in one song. #mystery

Where Should You Start?

Identify the type of reverb sound you’re aiming for in each part of the song. Is the reverb huge and expansive or subtle and short? Does the reverb trail go on forever, or does it cut off quickly? Do you want added movement and warble for extra texture?

Guidelines and Examples:

Reverb Ratings:
Reverbs rated 1 will be a good place to start to add depth and space without overpowering your core dry tone. Jump up to 2 when you want the reverb to be a more noticeable part of your sound. Jump up to 3 when you want to approach ambient-playing, where the reverb becomes a key element of the overall atmosphere.

For Bethel songs, start with the Cloud or Cloud + Chorale reverbs (GFHGC1, GFHGC2, GFHGC3; GFHGC+CH1…).

For Hillsong, try the GFHGR reverbs when subtle reverb is needed. For wetter parts, try the GFHGH or GFHGP1 reverbs if you need a bit more sheen. If you need to step it up a bit more but don’t want to go full-on ethereal tone, try one of the Chamber + Hall presets.

For Elevation, try the GFHGR reverbs when subtle reverb is needed. For wetter parts, try the GFHGH reverbs.

You get the idea! 🙂

Next, choose the preset that matches the reverb intensity you’re looking for: 1 is mild, 2 is moderate, and 3 is more intense and washed out.
