Kind words from Tim H.
Troy,
I just got done reading your Tone Guide during my work break and I had to email you to let you know how helpful and inspiring it is. I fall in the first camp – the one that’s obsessed with the ever chasing quest for THE tone. Anyway, your tips for delay and verb are gold. You have perfectly taken what is such a frustrating ordeal for so many and condensed it down to just what we need to know. I have often found myself frustrated that my audible delays (when I want them to be heard) get lost.
Thanks for your investment in the worship community and for always making the glory and worship of our Lord and Savior the most important thing that we do as guitar players.
Best,
Tim
This nearly 7,000 word ebook contains my findings, interpretations, experiences and, yes, opinions, over the years of passionately studying this genre. I pray this resource helps you make sense of the maze of tones and approaches to achieving those tones. As you navigate the maze, always remember the ultimate goal: true worship of Jesus Christ for dying for our sins, of the Holy Spirit for living in us and making us alive again and for the Father, for orchestrating it all.
May this resource help you worry less about tone and more about worship to ultimately bring glory to God, joy to his people and salvation to those who do not yet know Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
Sections include:
- Defining the modern worship guitar tone
- Helpful visuals and explanations for today’s worship guitar tones as defined by the prominent worship teams, which help you “see” how the tones differ and how to craft them
- The wonderful world of overdrives. Which style pedals get us where we need to be?
- Tips for dialing in delay
- Tips for dialing in reverb
- Tips for dialing in your amp
- Tips for dialing in overdrives
- Tips for swells
- Taking advantage of today’s tools
- Tips for choosing a guitar
- Working with what you have
Kind words from Paul T.
Hi Troy,
I’m relatively new to electric guitar for P&W, starting a couple of years ago – I’ve been playing acoustic (12-string) since the 1970’s. The whole world of pedals and the elusive search for “tone” has been overwhelming.
I bought your “Guide to the Modern Worship Guitar Tone” e-book 2 days ago and found it phenomenally helpful – so much so that I bought a second copy to give to our Worship Leader!
