This pack includes 27 captures and is built to walk you through the gain stages—from clean boost to medium gain—using some of the best drive pedals from the last 15+ years, and the ones I’ve personally leaned on the most.
All drives are dialed how I prefer them to be. I play them into amps/amp simulators at the edge of breakup for best results, but don’t feel locked into that. Try moving the gain, treble, and presence around—especially in that 3 to 6 range. The captures hold their character really well within that range, so you can shape them to fit your pickups and how you run your amp.
What’s Included
BOOST/LOW GAIN
Greer Amps Lightspeed – the low gain wonder for just a little more hair.
Jackson Audio Prism – one of my favorite clean boosts of all time. Has some nice sizzle.
SOJ KDSD-3 Preamp – The Edge is known for this preamp. Great one here!
SoloDallas Storm – a great preamp/drive that provides body.
Tone Ranger Prickly Pear – a great preamp meant to add some sparkle. Back the gain down to -11.6 for what I consider its signature tone. At 0, it’s adding quite a lot of hair and sounds amazing that way as well.
XACT Tone Solutions GE-7 Mod – an awesome EQ pedal that I use as a boost.
Xotic Effects RC Booster – one of the best boost pedals of all time.
LOW/MEDIUM GAIN
Analogman King of Tone Red (kind of medium gain) – everyone knows what this is.
Analogman King of Tone Yellow – everyone knows what this is.
Benson Preamp (original gain version) – one of my favorite pedals. Benson changed the gain structure of these at some point. My older one has a ton of gain on tap, and I love it.
Case Study Last Light – It’s capable of the flubby fuzz stuff, but I don’t like the way it sounds. Where this one shines to me is with the gain barely cracked, adding bite and clarity with a bit of pent-up aggression.
JHS SuperBolt I – low gain setting. All the fluffy goodness of the SuperBolt.
Lauren Audio Mustang – I captured this one gainier than I normally use it, but if you back the gain down to 2–3, it’s right at the sweet spot. I also like the more gained-out tone, so keep it at 5 for some sizzle.
NRG Effects Purrer – low to medium gain is this one’s strength. At 0, it’s close to medium gain. Back the gain down to -8.2 for a wonderful low gain setting.
Shnobel Tone Daily Driver – my favorite low–medium gain drive.
SoloDallas CD65 – bright and open drive sound.
MEDIUM GAIN
Analog Man King of Tone Red and Yellow Together – so good.
Case Study Aspen Overdrive – a modern classic for medium gain stuff. So good.
JHS Kilt V1 (Cut Mode) – Cut switch activated for a more open sound.
JHS Kilt V1 (Flat Mode) – Flat switch activated for a fuller sound.
JHS SuperBolt II – medium gain setting. All the fluffy goodness of the SuperBolt.
NRG Effects Purrer (Boost Engaged)
Shnobel Tone Daily Driver (Boost Engaged)
Input Trim: I’ve been enjoying the input trim between +1 and +2.5.
